Fire Storm, by Gail Choolburra
Fire Storm 2, by Gail Choolburra
Acrylic on canvas, 120x160cm
This work was inspired by Choolburra's memories of the 2009 bushfires in her home town, Healesville, Victoria. Gail remembers being struck by the immensity of the firestorm and recalls thinking that if cultural burning was an accepted land management strategy, it may have been a different story.
Ten years later, Choolburra emphasises the long process required to emotionally process the experience of the fires.
Gail Choolburra has used two dot sizes to create a shimmering, rippling 3-D effect in this striking work.
