The female Kurranji, Cassowary, lays eggs and the male bird sits on the eggs to incubate them. Kurranji are highly valued by our people through stories, customs, songs and dance. Many of the foods that Kurrunji eat are food we enjoy eating such as Kurruy - Burdenkin plum, Jirri - Davidson plum and Janbal - Blue Quandong. My Grandfather told me they used to wear the feathers of the Kurranji for decoration while doing ceremonial dances.
