The bush around Yuendumu provides many different habitats for birds to live in. Many bird species live around the waterholes and rivers, others live in the spinifex country, and some make nests in local trees.
In Warlpiri culture, birds are associated with a number of different ‘Jukurrpa’ (Dreaming) stories and major ceremonies.
Wilma lives in Yuendumu and loves watching the birds that live around her town. This work shows a sulphur-crested cockatoo with its crest erect.
