Large metal dogs (Maliki)

Hand-painted by the artists at Warlukurlangu Artists

Each one measures between 30cm and 40cm in length, and 26cm high.

All are cut to the shapes of dogs that live in Yuendumu.

The sales of the metal dogs contribute to the costs of vaccination, desexing, outreach vet care, housing homeless dogs and rehoming.

$180 each

Dogs are called Jarntu or Maliki in the Warlpiri language, and in Warlpiri culture they are considered important family members (Warlalja).

Dogs feature in Jukurrpa (Dreaming) stories. Maliki Jukurrpa (Dog Dreaming) comes from a site called Pindara, southwest of Yuendumu. Malikijarra Jukurrpa (Two Dogs Dreaming) comes from country adjacent to Warlala (Rabbit Flat). This Dreaming describes proper conduct in families and marriages.
