Tjanpi Desert Weavers' vision is to improve the lives of NPY women and their families by supporting cultural activity, income generation and employment through the creation of fibre art. At its core, Tjanpi embodies the energies and rhythms of the country, culture and community, empowering 400 women across a 350,000 square kilometre area of the tri-state region of NT, SA and WA.
Tjanpi sculptures are made from a combination of native desert grasses, seeds and feathers, commercially bought raffia (sometimes dyed with native plants), string and wool.
Chriselda Farmer is an artist belonging to the Ngaanyatjarra language and cultural group in Western Australia. She lives in the Warakurna Community. She had her debut exhibition at the Fremantle Arts Centre WA, where she created a culture of a rabbit being chased by a series of snakes.
