Greg McAdam painted Grass Seed in 2004. It is a dreaming story from his country Yamba, given to him by his uncle. With a thirst for cultural knowledge and information, Greg paints as a way to connect with his cultural being. Born in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) in 1977, Greg is an Arrernte Man.
The Arrernte people, sometimes referred to as the Aranda, Arunta or Arrarnta, are a group who live in the central Australian region of the Northern Territory. Arrernte mythology and spirituality focusses on the landscape and The Dreaming. Altjira is the creator being of the Inapertwa that becomes all living creatures.
'Its not just a painting. There's a song to that story and a dance to it...that painting is a dreaming story too...' says Greg about this important work.
