Triptych, Nawnta (Sisters) - Amanda Wright

30 x 30 cm   $750

Acrylic paint on Canvas

This is part of a series of work where Wright honours her matrilineal ancestor, Moorinya of the Nuennonne Tribe of Bruny Island who was abducted by sealers, taken to Kangaroo Island and forced to provide food for them. She is a symbol of endurance, resilience and survival for Wright.

Wright examines all that flows from this relationship and especially the strength and wisdom she draws from the women in her family. In Wright's portraits, Aboriginal women powerfully return the colonial gaze, standing their ground, clear in their identity and agency.

Wrights explores the emotional elements of these relationships, that are depicted through abstraction, pattern and iconography.

These pieces can be sold separately.
